Terms of reference- background
As per definition of sustainability, the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development is captured as:
“Sustainability is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
The concept, founded by Hans Carl von Carlowitz in 1713, has evolved over centuries and today it embraces all aspects of our socio-economic and political landscapes. It was only in 1879, did the first world climate conference take place.
This culminated with the Brundtland Report in 1987 on sustainable development under the then Prime Minister of Sweden Ciro Harlem Brundtland, the” Brundtland Commission” released its final report – “Our Common Future”
